and not expecting any during the day today. there may be a few showers this evening along the coast and then a break. and then we will get the system to our south. see how nice and clear it is in the lehigh valley and the suburbs. the clearing has taken place overnight. and that is going to allow the temperatures to get cold this morning. there's the wet weather. it's even spreading snow into mississippi, alabama, georgia, and now into portions of north carolina. that snow is heading our way. so is a cold morning. not quite as cold as yesterday in philadelphia. 37 degrees. there are some colder spots where we're getting that clearing this morning. 28 in reading. 30 degrees in pottstown. we'll be dry during the day. the temperatures climb by 1:00 this afternoon. we'll be in the very low 40s. i'll break it down hour by hour, take a closer look at when you can expect to see some snow over the weekend when i'm back in ten minutes. first, katy zachry has your first alert traffic. thanks. i want to start out with good news. typically at this time we see overnight construction that may be affecting things on the vine
street expressway. if you look behind me, the vine is open in both directions. both east and westbound. that's great. this is the live look right at 18th street. and i took a look at broad street. and right when you exit at 8th, everything looks free and clear of any issues. there are issues out there we'll get to in a second. take a look at drive times on the majors in pennsylvania. 95, 76, 476 all green which means no crashes, no overnight construction that's hampering things. speeds are where they should be. average around 60. taking a look at the 42 freeway making your way northbound between 55 and the walt whitman bridge, that's a quick five-minute drive. we are seeing overnight construction around the 42 freeway as it leads into 295. i'll have a picture of that coming up because it may hamper your drive. we're also looking at construction on the pennsylvania turnpike. more details coming up. >> all right. thank you. after establishing a life for nearly 30 years in the united states, a south jersey couple will likely be deported back to mexico before sunrise.
[ chanting ] >> these are prayers from supporters of oscar humberto campos outside cory booker's camden office yesterday. the family hoped his influence would help initiate a stay on their deportation. however, immigration officials denied the request. senator booker says it's sad to see the family needmentsly torn a-- needlessly torn apart. the couple's children may have to face the reality of living without their parents. >> my parents always motivate me. my little brother motivates me. i'm going to have to try and be a mother to him and support him. you know, make him have a life that i had, that my manners made me have. >> the campos family has to be at newark airport within the hour to check in. then their flight to mexico takes off at 6:35 this morning. we'll have a reporter live at the airport coming up in the 6:00 a.m. hour. a fresh supply of much-needed items will be shipped from our area to puerto rico today. you're looking at images of
local unions working together to help people still struggling after hurricane maria. workers collected over 60,000 pounds of relief supplies. shale be shipped to the -- they'll be shipped to the decimated territory. the cargo plane was donated by american airlines that the take off later this morning. right now one-third of puerto rico remains without power. that falls short of having 80% restored by the end of the month. the energy authority says it could take until february to get all energy service up and running. and new jersey's governor-elect is planning a trip to puerto rico. phil murphy and his wife will leave a week frommed to to visit the island -- a week from today to visit the land and tour puerto rico. he will meet with the governor. hundreds of police have been there helping with the recovery. a bucks county neighborhood is returning to normal following a six-hour standoff that ended in an arrest. police took nicholas napoli away
in handcuffs. when lafw enforcement tried to serve a warrant, he barricaded himself in a home in bristol borou borough. a s.w.a.t. team broke a window and got inside and found him with a woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend. >> it was stressful. especially the part that we had to get the kids. the school was on lockdown. when my daughter came out she was crying. it was a frenzy of us getting our kids and leaving. the school did a great job of organizing everything so that we could get our kids home safely. >> police say napoli is a person of interest in a deadly hit and run in croiden. in new castle county, police want to know what sparked a fire sending a business up in flames on hadco road last night. it took an hour to get it under control. no one was hurt. the business makes parts for lighting systems. 4:04. today leaders from every county in new jersey will gather in trenton for a summit on the
opioid crisis. the new jersey association of counties will hold panel discussions on its role in battling the epidemic. the group will hear from law enforcement, medical experts, and community leaders. governor chris christie is expected to give the keynote speech. workshops will focus on how counties can provide resources for opioid addiction recovery and what next steps should be taken. 4:05. a pastor in burlington county faces charges that he sexually assaulted children for more than a decade. harry thomas is the head pastor at the come alive church in medford. he's accused of sexual assaulting four girls under the age of 13. police arrested the 74-year-old on wednesday after the alleged victims came forward. the church suspended him indefinitely. >> leadership has determined this to be the proper course of action at this time until there can be a full investigation. >> all this stuff with women coming forward, women at least are grown up and can slap the guy. little children are helpless. >> thomas is now in the hospital
under guard for an underlying condition. authorities have not set a court date. now to an nbc10 exclusive. only we talked with rapper meek mill's attorney who's fighting to get the star freed from prison. >> reading, thinking, contemplating -- >> that's what the lawyer said the musician has been doing at the correctional facility in chester since being locked up on repeated probation violations on gun and drug charges. his attorney spoke with us, and we asked him about a report that said mill backed out of fbi agents secretly record a conversation with the judge who locked him up. >> there is absolutely no scenario on where i could comment on details of an fbi investigation. >> he says he's never seen anything like this in his career -- an endless probation period where someone is locked up for not even committing a crime. he believes pennsylvania's superior court will staten this out and let mill go --
straighten this out and let mill go home. on our app, see a timeline of how he ended up back in prison. sign up for twists and alerts in the case. people who walk across one of the busiest streets, south broad, will soon see safety upgrades. the city will build raised intersections at chestnut, sansum and walnut streets. this shows crosswalks slightly hire than the street itself. the raised intersections are designed to slow drivers down. today army/navy weekend returns to philadelphia. the game between the rival football teams is not until tomorrow, but the competition off the field is already set to begin. nbc10's matt delucia joins us live at lincoln financial field. matt, walk us through the events this weekend. >> reporter: seems like it's going to be a cold weekend for sure. and it's not just the army/navy football game anymore, you have a lot going on -- although the football game is the main event. today you start with the patriot
game. we have the army cadets and navy shipmen. they'll start with their rocky run at the art museum, a pullup challenge at noon at the shops at liberty place. then you have a tug-of-war competition that is happening on the pier by the battleship "new jersey." these events are free. you can check them out if you want. this is the 11th time the game was played at the linc. it's been pretty good luck for the navy. they've had a 14-game win streak. that was until last year. the time-honored tradition is back again this weekend. tonight there's a crossfit competition between cadets and folks in philly who do crossfit. a busy weekend for those who are physically fit. live at the lake, matt delucia, nbc10 news.
>> thanks very much. not just the players that are fit. the fans, as well. no pot bellies up in the stand. let's talk about today and tomorrow. we've issued a first alert for tomorrow. >> bill? >> yeah. snow on the way. tomorrow, tracking snow in the area. it will be coming up across delaware and south jersey. this morning, cold is back. below freezing in the lehigh valley and suburbs. the warmer temperatures in delaware and philadelphia, that's where clouds are lingering. there are some neighborhoods in south jersey that are a bit colder. 32 at mt. laurel. upper 30s for turnersville, swedesboro, 37. a range of temperatures. lumberton and pemberton freezing. another cold start this morning. temperatures will be climbing during the day.
and we will see them peak in the 40s this afternoon. the wind, stronger this morning, but it dies down later today. temperatures come down at 7:00 tonight. it will be above freezing at 7:00 this evening. there's a chance it will stay above freezing during the evening hours, as well. doppler radar and satellite shows it's quiet for our area. you see the wet weather to the south. that rain will move into the colder air. the atmosphere will be cold enough that we will likely see during the day on saturday some of this. the snow that's reaching into north of atlanta, into western north carolina and just a glancing blow for eastern tennesse tennessee. you won't see the snow during the day today. temperatures will be climbing, 38, still chilly for philadelphia. that's at lunchtime today. look at the cloudsli lingering across delaware and south jersey. sunshine, but not much warmer for areas north and west. dry during the day. the first flakes may be falling
this evening. just to the south, you see cape may and delaware getting a little light snow. that's going to break. that's this evening at 5:00. look at those temperatures -- above freezing. you might see snowflakes. but accumulation is unlikely. then that snow moves offshore. by late in the evening, this is 10:00 tonight, it will be dry. watch what happens overnight and into tomorrow. snow comes back in. that's at midnight tonight. that's when the first alert goes into effect for accumulating snow. don't expect to see much in the way of accumulation at that hour with temperatures bulletproof freec freezing. through the morning, snow will spread inland. that's 4:00 saturday morning. temperatures drop with the falling temperatures. there's a better chance of slushy accumulation, especially in delaware and south jersey. and eventually reaches into the i-95 area, wilmington, philadelphia, northeast philadelphia, trenton, and some of the suburbs. not all of the suburbs will be seeing this during the morning hours on saturday. it continues right into the
10:00 hour on saturday and even into saturday afternoon. but by the time the army/navy game starts, looks like that may be tapering off in philadelphia. we'll look at the entire weekend when i'm back in ten minutes. >> see you then. 4:12 on this friday. let's look at the roads and pennsylvania turnpike. >> katy zachry has first alert traffic for you this friday morning. i've been keeping my eye on spots where we know overnight construction could be a problem for drivers. one of the areas is the pennsylvania turnpike headed westbound between the new jersey state line and exit for shamny. this is realtime information coming in. if you're out there, you can see that it's really not a bad drive eastbound and westbound to valley forge. when i see you in a bit, we'll look at the 42 freeway and any construction problems it's causing as you make your way to 295. that's in new jersey. >> thank you. attacked at a shelter.

county, a principal is making good on his promise to his students. >> yeah. just a short time ago, we checked on a livestream from the middle school in exton where jonathan ross is sleeping on the roof this morning. you see that from the sign he's trying to get a little shut aye now. he did -- shuteye right now. he did say hi to us. why is mr. ross there? mr. ross vowed to camp out on the roof if the students raised more than $7,500 during the turkey trot fundraiser that happened last month. the kids brought in more than $7,600. that will go to the alex's lemonade stand foundation for childhood cancer. >> i almost didn't have to put the motivation out there honestly. our kids are just really, really passionate, really into causes. >> and the students can follow the principal on that -- on that livestream we showed you, you can, as well on the nbc10 app.

accumulating snow, that will wait for tomorrow. philadelphia, dry during the day, cloudy tomorrow night. in the morning, we may see the first snowflakes in philadelphia, as well. some accumulation possible, too. 30 in the lehigh valley and the suburbs. 35 in delaware, and 37 degrees in the suburbs. we'll see a climb from 30s to 40s this afternoon. and it will be a mostly cloudy one. that bright sunshine we had yesterday, not going to be repeating in philadelphia. 39 by 2:00. the cold start in the suburbs, mostly cloudy. there will be breaks in the clouds, but not a lot of sunshi sunshine. dry for the lehigh valley. staying dry this weekend, as well. it's delaware and south jersey that will see clouds today and snow accumulating tomorrow. and especially at the shore. the first flakes could be around
this evening. during the day between 6:00 and 2:00, it will be dry. the system that we're watching, spreading clouds into the area already. it's to the south that all that precipitation is going to start coming into the area which will lead to some light snow accumulating in philadelphia. first thing tomorrow morning and during the day it's possible. the suburbs might see a few snowflakes, as well. less likely here. you're more likely to stay dry in the lehigh valley. accumulating snow and more of a slushy mix for new jersey, the jersey shore, and delaware, too. temperatures will peak saturday in the very low 40s. come sunday, drying out. we'll be clearing out. the temperatures will be colder. any snow that's on the ground on saturday night is going to still be there on sunday morning and maybe even sunday afternoon. we will see sunshine. this is not the only chance for seeing snowfall. we'll look at the ten day on 10 in the next half hour. >> thanks for that. download the nbc10 app so

another hollywood director is facing sexual assault allegations. yesterday a man filed suit against brian singer who directed the "x-men" series. the man claims singer sexually attacked him on a yacht when the teenager was about 15 years old. a spokesperson says singer denies the allegations and the fight the lawsuit. a community in new mexico is grieving after a gunman opened fire in a high school killing two students. [ gunfire ] the shooter opened fire inside aztec high school. students hid until authorities gave the all-clear. authorities have not identified the two victims or shooter. the gunman is dead, but police won't say if he died by suicide or was killed by police. students, parents, and other members of the community gathered for a candlelight vigil last night. they remembered the two high
